Chicago, Illinois
- Received Illinois Historic Preservation Certificate of Rehabilitation
This complete rehabilitation and restoration is located in Chicago's historic Old Town Triangle neighborhood. The existing masonry structure, dating from the 1870’s, had been previously subdivided into four apartments and the structure was returned to a single-family residence that fulfills modern comfort requirements while still retaining the feel of the original 19th-century architecture.
The plan organizes the first floor into three zones which each take advantage of their distinct characteristics: the living room, located at the front zone, has highly detailed columns and moldings that are scaled to relate to the large front windows and extremely high existing ceilings; the dining room, located in the center of the plan, is illuminated from above by a dramatic 30' vertical clear space leading up to a light monitor located atop the roof; and at the rear of the plan is the great room, which contains a family room, kitchen, and breakfast area.
