Terminal 5, O'Hare International Airport, Chicago, Illinois
When the TSA was relocated in Terminal 5 its location and design severely negatively impacted the terminal's flow and usability. The security line essentially cut the terminal into unnatural 'air' and 'land' sides. In particular, the food court and the bulk of the retail locations were positioned on the 'land side', a place where travelers are in a hurry and only spend a short amount of their total time in the terminal.
The reconfigured TSA has been designed to be located out of the valuable courtyard space by shifting the security line up further back from the 'airside', thereby increasing the retail and food and beverage options on the more desirable 'airside'. Exiting out of the TSA routes travelers directly into and through the adjacent Duty Free flow through retail space. Future TSA expansion is handled in an adjacent space, directly to the northwest of the TSA's new space.
